N-up imposition places several document pages onto each printed sheet — two-up, four-up, or more — scaling them to fit. It is how you turn a hundred-page draft into twenty-five sheets of paper.
Booklet imposition is the related trick: pages are reordered and paired so that printing double-sided and folding the stack down the middle produces a correctly sequenced booklet.
How it works
- 1Load the document. The page count determines the imposition.
- 2Choose the layout. Pick 2-up, 4-up or a booklet arrangement, plus the sheet size and spacing.
- 3Download. A document with fewer, denser sheets, ready to print.
When you need it
- Printing a long draft for review on a quarter of the paper
- Producing handouts with several slides per sheet
- Making a folded booklet from an ordinary document
- Creating a compact reference card from several pages
Frequently asked questions
- Will the text still be readable?
- Two-up is comfortable for most documents. Four-up suits slides and large type; small print becomes hard work.
- How do I print the booklet output?
- Print double-sided, flipping on the short edge, then fold the stack in half. The page order is already arranged for that.
- Can I add a gap between the pages?
- Yes, spacing and margins are configurable.
- Are my documents uploaded anywhere?
- No. Every tool in PDF41 runs inside your browser tab using WebAssembly and JavaScript. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed locally, and handed back as a download. It is never transmitted to a server, so there is nothing to intercept, retain, or delete afterwards.
- Does this work without an internet connection?
- Yes, once the page has loaded. The PDF engine, fonts and character maps are all served from this site rather than a third-party CDN, so an unstable connection or a locked-down corporate network does not stop the tool from working.
