Same-Page Workflow

Re-run operations repeatedly without losing your active tool workspace.

Adding page numbers stamps a running count into the page content, so it survives printing, flattening and conversion. You choose the position, the starting number, the format and the range.

This is what makes a document assembled from several sources read as one: without numbering, a fifty-page pack that has been reordered is very hard to check.

How it works

  1. 1Load the document. The page count determines the sequence.
  2. 2Configure the numbering. Set position, starting value, format — plain numbers or "Page 3 of 40" — and which pages get one.
  3. 3Download. Numbers are drawn into each page.

When you need it

  • Numbering a document compiled from separately authored sections
  • Preparing a bundle for a meeting where people must find a page quickly
  • Adding pagination required by a submission standard
  • Numbering a printed draft for review comments

Frequently asked questions

Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Restrict the range and set the starting value so the first numbered page shows the number you want.
Can I show a total?
Yes, the "Page X of Y" format includes it.
Will the numbers overlap existing content?
Choose a position clear of your layout and check the first page. Resize PDF can add a margin if there is genuinely no room.
Are my documents uploaded anywhere?
No. Every tool in PDF41 runs inside your browser tab using WebAssembly and JavaScript. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed locally, and handed back as a download. It is never transmitted to a server, so there is nothing to intercept, retain, or delete afterwards.
Does this work without an internet connection?
Yes, once the page has loaded. The PDF engine, fonts and character maps are all served from this site rather than a third-party CDN, so an unstable connection or a locked-down corporate network does not stop the tool from working.
