Same-Page Workflow

Re-run operations repeatedly without losing your active tool workspace.

Every PDF carries metadata: title, author, subject, keywords, the software that produced it and the dates it was created and modified. It is invisible on the page and thoroughly visible to anyone who opens the document properties.

That makes this tool useful in two opposite directions — setting the fields properly so a document is findable and correctly attributed, or stripping them entirely before a file leaves the organisation.

How it works

  1. 1Load the PDF. Current metadata is read and shown.
  2. 2Edit or clear. Change individual fields, or remove every value at once.
  3. 3Download. The page content is untouched; only the document information changes.

When you need it

  • Removing an internal author name before sending a document to a client
  • Setting a proper title so the document is findable in a library
  • Clearing the software fingerprint left by the producing application
  • Correcting attribution on a document exported with the wrong defaults

Frequently asked questions

Does clearing metadata make the document anonymous?
It removes the document information fields, which is where most identifying data sits. It does not remove content on the page, nor identifying details inside embedded images.
Will the appearance change?
Not at all. Metadata is never rendered.
Can I see what metadata a file carries first?
Yes, the current values are shown before you change anything.
Are my documents uploaded anywhere?
No. Every tool in PDF41 runs inside your browser tab using WebAssembly and JavaScript. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed locally, and handed back as a download. It is never transmitted to a server, so there is nothing to intercept, retain, or delete afterwards.
Does this work without an internet connection?
Yes, once the page has loaded. The PDF engine, fonts and character maps are all served from this site rather than a third-party CDN, so an unstable connection or a locked-down corporate network does not stop the tool from working.
