Flatten PDF

Make fillable forms read-only by flattening interactive layers.

Tailored Parameters

Fine-tune exact dimensions, qualities, ranges, or security tokens for this feature.

Instant Local Processing

Zero latency local computation directly in your browser session.

Same-Page Workflow

Re-run operations repeatedly without losing your active tool workspace.

Flattening converts interactive elements into ordinary page content. Filled form fields keep their values but stop being editable, annotations become part of the page, and what every reader sees is exactly what you see now.

It is the standard final step before sending a completed form somewhere it must not be altered, and it removes a whole class of rendering differences between PDF readers.

How it works

  1. 1Load the filled document. Form values and annotations are read as they currently stand.
  2. 2Flatten. Field values and annotation appearances are drawn into the page content.
  3. 3Download the locked copy. The result looks identical and is no longer interactive.

When you need it

  • Returning a completed application so the answers cannot be changed
  • Fixing a form that renders differently in different readers
  • Preparing a document for print where field highlighting must not appear
  • Archiving a signed form in a state that will still render years from now

Frequently asked questions

Can a flattened form be un-flattened?
No. The field definitions are gone. Keep the interactive version if you may need to edit it again.
Do the values stay visible?
Yes. That is the point: they are drawn into the page exactly as displayed.
Does this make the document secure?
It prevents casual editing of fields, but it is not encryption. Use Protect & Encrypt when confidentiality matters.
Are my documents uploaded anywhere?
No. Every tool in PDF41 runs inside your browser tab using WebAssembly and JavaScript. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed locally, and handed back as a download. It is never transmitted to a server, so there is nothing to intercept, retain, or delete afterwards.
Does this work without an internet connection?
Yes, once the page has loaded. The PDF engine, fonts and character maps are all served from this site rather than a third-party CDN, so an unstable connection or a locked-down corporate network does not stop the tool from working.
